For the sake of the children

Dr Judith A. Reisman, who died on 8 April, devoted her life to the cause of child protection.

Born in 1935, Reisman was Research Professor at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia, and the author of numerous reports, papers and books. Between 1986 and 1990 she served as a consultant to the United States Department of Justice, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Dr Reisman was called as an expert witness in cases relating to child protection in many countries. The archives of her forty years of research are held at Liberty University.

Tragically, one of Reisman’s four daughters was traumatised by sexual abuse perpetrated by an older boy, and later suffered an early death due to a brain aneurysm. Reisman’s grief would be channelled into her tireless campaign to protect other children from such abuse. This would lead her into confronting the powerful vested interests promoting the sexual revolution – including the global pornography industry. Reisman exposed the lie at the heart of the ‘Sexual Revolution’ and the evil abuse perpetrated by one of its leaders. Not surprisingly, this meant she gained many enemies.

Reisman was best known for her exposĂ© of the fraudulent and abusive ‘research’ published in the Kinsey Reports: Sexual behaviour in the human male (1948) and Sexual behaviour in the human female (1953). Alfred Kinsey (1894-1956) believed that people would only be free and fulfilled once the repressive restraints of Judaeo-Christian morality had been relegated to history. He wanted the repeal of any legislation which restricted sexual freedom. His ‘research’ purported to prove that there is ‘no normal’ with regard to sexual behaviour.

Sexual behaviour in the human male sold 200,000 copies in two months. The American public were led to believe that sexual restraint is damaging, that all desires should be indulged, and that pornography should be regarded as a normal part of life. The take-home figure, unquestioned by many, was that ten per cent of adult men in America had engaged in homosexual behaviour.[1] But what Kinsey et. al. passed off as ‘a carefully planned population survey’ were results from ‘a male interviewee sample containing approximately 25% prisoners or ex-prisoners, an abnormal percentage of sex offenders, and other sexually unconventional groups in numbers unrepresentative of society’.[2]

But by far the most chilling chapters of Kinsey’s two books concern ‘Early Sexual Growth and Activity’. Kinsey laid out detailed ‘evidence’ that infants from a few months old enjoy sexual stimulation.[3] But the descriptions he gave of the erotic arousal of infants and children can only be regarded as systematic and criminal abuse. Kinsey believed that distress caused by early sexual contact with adults was only due to the negative reaction of other adults who wrongly stigmatised such activity. When author and award-winning documentary maker Tim Tate investigated Kinsey’s experiments relating to so-called early sexual activity, he found that much of Kinsey’s ‘evidence’ had been supplied by predatory and habitual paedophiles. Tate’s 1998 documentary, “Kinsey’s Paedophiles”, confirmed Dr Reisman’s claims about Kinsey’s child abuse.

Today, we see the toxic legacy of Alfred Kinsey and the other architects of the Sexual Revolution all around us. To claim that people flourish best within the boundaries of man-woman marriage is viewed as discrimination. To teach children that the purpose of sexuality is the husband-wife union that leads to the procreation of children is condemned as bigoted. The global pornography industry pulls ever more people into destructive addiction, and ever greater numbers into sex slavery and trafficking.

We are thankful, then, for Dr Riesman’s courage and persistence in exposing the dark lies at the heart of the Sexual Revolution. The Reisman Institute will carry forward her work, challenging the sexualisation of children, and the evils of child pornography and sex trafficking worldwide.

We are even more thankful however that the Gospel offers ultimate hope and healing to those who have been damaged and abused. Whether or not we’ve bought into the lies of the Sexual Revolution, we all fall short of the perfect standards laid down by our Creator God. The Gospel freely offers forgiveness, healing and eternal hope to all.
